Koningsplein was named in the 17th century after king Henry IV of France. He was an important ally of the Republic of the Netherlands.
Book shop Scheltema arrived in this building in 1985. In 1999 it was enlarged to 3000 square metres of floor area. In 2014 Scheltema was a part of the bankruptcy of Polare, but a couple of months later they started up again. This was just before Easter.
