Period of construction: end 17th century

Before the Tichelstraat came into being during the second half of the 17th century, there were bleaching fields on this spot. Tichelstraat means: Tiles Street. It refers, just like Gieterstraat (Foundry Street) and Pottenbakkersgang( Potter Passage), to the traditional enterprises that sprang up around the ruins of the Kartuizerklooster (cloister). Tichelstraat is a street tipical for the Jordaan area: narrow, straight and with a view of the Westertoren. It is surprising to find a yard in a street like this, having a fence on the street side and two private houses (number 41 and 43) giving onto the yard. It looks like a country site.
