Built as an entrepôt for the Admiraliteit van Amsterdam, the city’s marine. Storage of cannons, sails and ship equipment. In the cellar a volume of 40.000 litres of rain water was stored in order to supply the ships with drinking water. In 1973 the building was re-opened as the Scheepvaartmuseum (Nautical Museum). Between 2007 and 2011 renovated after a design by Liesbeth van der Pol.
Those venturing to sail around the Cape of Good Hope and arrive at James Bond Island, hope to be protected by the city marine.
