Storehouse De Zwijger
Year of construction: 1933/ 1934
Architect: J. de BieLeuvelingTjeenk
Style: het Nieuwe Bouwen

Originally a cooling storehouse for perishables. When newly built it was one of the most modern storehouses in the world. Later it was abandoned and threatened by demolition, but it was saved by a renovation project for the south bank of the IJ. In 2001 something special occurred: the new Jan Schaefer bridge was constructed, running straight through this building. Traffic has been running through the heart of the building ever since, albeit with a height restriction.
